Pekapeka Tou Roa

As part of a citizen science initiative to help protect the pekapeka-tou-roa, New Zealand’s native long-tailed bat, Community Waitakere commissioned an A2 educational poster for schools and wider community distribution.

Designed primarily for Years 5–13, the poster brings together detailed information about the bat with practical guidance on how people can help locate and protect the species. The challenge was to organise a large amount of information so it remained clear, engaging and accessible to a broad audience.

The detailed hand-painted bat illustrations are by Erin Forsyth, with tā moko illustration by Te Haunui Tuna.
